Based on a horrific case that shook Paris in 2006, this powerful French thriller is taut and suspenseful even for those who know the outcome of the story. Ilan Halimi, a young Parisian Jew, is lured by a beautiful woman into a kidnapping trap masterminded by a criminal network known as the “Gang of Barbarians.†Their intent is to hold Halimi for ransom based on their assumption that Jewish families not only are extremely wealthy, but are also willing to pay for the lives of their loved ones. The police insist, though, that this is purely a case of kidnapping for ransom, whereas Ilan's mother, Ruth is the only one who perceives the vicious antisemitism that motivates the perpetrators. Thus begins an intense police investigation that results only in frustration for the investigators, the criminals, and the anguished Halimi family. 24 Days is a provocative film that sheds light on contemporary French antisemitism. It has taken on prophetic significance in light of recent world-shaking events in Paris
