The whole process of "creating the scene", from setting up the stage to making the costumes and using the props, is handled by set designers. But what does a career in set design looks like?

A career in set design is an exciting and creative job choice, as it involves designing and creating an environment on a film or theatre set.

Set Designers are responsible for creating an atmosphere and mood to match the production they are working on. This means they must have an eye for detail, be familiar with the script, and be able to effectively communicate their vision to the team.

On a daily basis, set designers will meet with producers and directors to discuss their projects and create sketches and reports to give an overview of their ideas. Once the overall plan has been discussed, a set designer will then move on to bring their vision to life. This involves constructing physical sets using a variety of materials, such as wood, metal, fabric, and foam. Set designers may also be in charge of overseeing budgets and procuring materials to ensure that the production remains within budget.

Set designers must be able to work under tight deadlines and in a fast-paced environment. They must also be able to work with a wide range of people, from actors and directors to crew members and producers.

If you have a passion for creating and designing and are interested in contributing to a production in a creative way, a career in set design might be a great fit for you!
